My Life Abroad

Joy Fernandez

One often sees that to face life's reality is to accept whatever will be. yet, not to the point that we will not have to think or move for a change. Truly, we know that we surely have the winning card, if we hold tight with determination, no matter how strong and hard a problem arises. There's one up ther-God waiting for our call.

Living or working outside our homeland entails a lot of challenges, temptations, maltreatment and family problems. Family problems are proven to be more complicated. Even if we wanted to be there with our family, we cannot resist that feeling to leave our country in order to solve our financial problems. I am not quite sure if there's someone here, enduring the hardship of communication and descrimination if not for financial reasons.

I have wild imaginations. I want to buy nice clothes, gold jewelriy, shoes. When I wear them, it seems that I look like Vilma Santos or Inna R. but the truth is, on the blurred side of the mirror, I really look like"Innamag na pandesal." I have so much jewelry, not gold but green (ugatugat sa kamay). Well, I just cheer up myself and keep believing that I can look more beautiful than Vilma, Inna, Rosanna or even Marimar or Madonna. This is only in my mind though. I cannot afford to spend much money on trivial things so, until now I am still using ordinary and simple things because my conscience says no to extravagance. I say no to temptation but yes to determination.

And tomorrow, I will surely come out as the mixed up beauty of Marimar and Madonna. I will go home completely fulfilled. Yes, believe it or not. There will always be somebody who will praise my beauty. If not my husband, it will be my mother. Of course I won because I am holding a card of dtermination and with Him, there is nothing impossible.
